Christmas

Here's a recap of Christmas festivities:

Since we would be out of town, and the brother's have strange work schedules, we decided to have C.T.'s dad, Kathy & Katie over for "Christmas" brunch the Sunday before. C.T. got me a really nice ($$) waffle maker, and we had a tried and true Alton Brown waffle recipe. So we had everyone over at what turned out to be noon. The table was decorated really pretty, with a red tablecloth and green cloth napkins. We had brunch and then opened presents. It was a nice way to do that side of the family - especially as our family is growing, perhaps this will become tradition?
That evening we met up with Sandra for dinner and A Christmas Carol play (a small production that turned out to be quite good!)

This year C.T. and I had Thursday and Friday off of work. So on Wednesday we packed up the car (after loading up the back, C.T. remarked "what are we going to do when we have the baby?" because we quickly filled up the honda) and headed to Minnesota. On Thursday we slept in, went to the dog park, tried furniture shopping (again...) and went for dinner at Tran, made a few last minute batches of cookies and played Ticket to Ride. C.T. blew us out of the water on that game - I don't know how he always gets the lucky cards!

On Christmas Eve we played a game of Monopoly before heading out to Grandma's house. There was dinner (no punch this year, John and I were debating whether she'd make it) and church - with candle-lit Silent Night - and cookies. We gave Grandma & Grandpa a scrabble game. They hadn't ever played, which was shocking! They really like crosswords and jumbles, so of course they took to this game quickly!

Christmas Day. Kayla, Steve and Syd arrived around noon and we ate the annual French Toast Bake (yum!) and then opened presents. We received some really nice things this year! Kayla gave us a painting of the Cherry in the Spoon. C.T. received a wooden box from dad. I got a stick blender which I am looking forward to using, and a lot of other cool things (A "penny dog" cookie cutter and a tiger hawk cookie cutter). I just love Christmas in Minnesota. They had many feet of snow up there. Penny loved it - she took the liberty of carving out running paths throughout the backyard. The tree looked beautiful as usual, and this year I took home some of my ornaments I've collected from Grandma or mom and dad over the years. It was kind of hard to break up all the threesomes :). After a trip to the dog park, the Pautsch's came over for steak dinner and gift exchange. Adam and Heidi were even in town! It was nice to catch up with them all. And then, it was over all too quickly. The next morning C.T. and I packed up again and headed on down the road.

We got in to Boone around 2:00 and ate a snacky dinner with Sandra and the brothers. We exchanged gifts and had a little dessert. We had planned on going to see a movie (like the last few years) but we missed the early show and 7:40 was too late for us. So back to Ankeny. And it felt really nice be home. C.T. shoveled the drive and I unpacked the car. We exhanged gifts before bed. I got him slipper shoes (without fur, do you know how rare that is?) and a Dave Matthews CD and a Dave Matthews lullaby tribute CD - which is pretty good. He was much too nice and got me some fun kitchen things, a tree skirt that he has plans to make into a family keepsake (our handprints, Penny's, the baby's...), and then he handed me a little jewelry box. I got teary. He got me beautiful pearl stud earrings. And he matched them with the jeweler to go with the existing pearl earrings I had from my grandma (I had lost one of the studs). Very sweet of him! We sat in the kitchen and listened to the lullaby CD and then went to bed. It was a lovely Christmas.

Can you believe she'll be here in less than 4 months! Wow!!! It was brought up quite a bit this year about how next Christmas will look with an 8 month old crawling around! And she was being cooperative so mom and kayla were able to feel her kick.

Movers, shakers...

She is really moving around a lot lately! And I can feel her a lot more than before. The other day, C.T. was able to feel from the outside the teeny kicks and punches - which was a really cool moment. She seems to be most active when I wake up, just before a meal (when I'm getting hungry) and then again later at night. I'm having a hard time imagining what she'll feel like in another month or so!

I'm really looking forward to meeting her.

Long post...

Ok, it has been FAR too long since I posted here last. So be prepared for a lengthly post, but enjoy!

I'm at 21.5 weeks today, and feeling pretty good! I am getting over a head cold (which thankfully was not the flu - I would feel terrible not getting the flu shot and then getting the flu! so here's hoping I continue my healthy streak. They say pregnant people are more susceptible to getting sick because of a suppressed immune system, but I think it's because we use the bathroom 3 times more than everyone else! lol)

The ultrasound a week ago was amazing. We were lucky enough to get lots of pictures (the technician said she was very photogenic and she couldn't help herself). There's a cute one of her profile, a few neat hand shots, and one I like of her with arms up in a boxing stance :) It was a special moment for me, holding the hand of my husband and watching our little girl in her snug temporary home. I was really happy to see her so squirmy - I hadn't really felt her moving around consistently. At the ultrasound they estimated she weighed 12 ounces. And we were told everything looks average and normal!
With knowing the gender now, it feels a bit more real. There's not just any old tiny human growing, but our daughter! I think C.T. had a short overwhelmed moment where he suddenly went to fending her off from boyfriends and dancing at her wedding! :) Both of us didn't care one way or the other, and it was a bit strange but we felt a little sad we weren't having one of each! Boys have their look-forward-to moments and girls have their own. I, for one, can't wait to braid her hair, kiss and snuggle her, cook & bake together, dream up fairy tale lands...etc etc!

I think we're pretty set on the name Lucy - but we might spell it Lucie instead. Not sure yet. And C.T. is liking the full name of Lucia. We will see!

I am definitely looking pregnant these days. There are days I feel pretty uncomfortable, but nothing too bad. I am doing my best to get to the gym a few days a week. It feels good to sweat since I spend most of my day sitting. I've tried to get to the pool, but unless I get up extra early, it's tough to fit it in around the swim meets & lessons going on in the evenings. Occasionally my back will be tight, and a few times I've woken up in the middle of the night with my calf cramping up, and I do feel the round ligament pain especially if I've been inactive for awhile, but overall no complaints! I still have my moments where I think "I'm gaining too much weight" "Other people this far along don't look as big". I have to remind myself that everybody's different, and as long as she is healthy in there, I shouldn't worry.

We went to our Baby Basics class the other night. The lady who led it definitely had her own opinions on things, but overall I agreed and we learned some good stuff. We first went over how to bathe - basically hold onto the baby & do your best, haha. She went over swaddling & diaper changing. C.T. changed his first diaper, no problem. She had some good pictures of what things will look like: birth marks, the cord, etc. She told us of her five S's to calm a fussy baby: Swaddle, Side/stomach, Swing, Shh, Suck. There's plenty of advice out there, I hope that I can do a good job of not being too stubborn.

Oh, the things babies "need". We went into a Babies R Us the other day to look around. I'm attempting to be as less-is-more as possible. The carseat I like is by Chicco and is about $180. That brand also has a stroller I really like because it's not a full size huge one, but it can still hold a carseat & has a regular seat that fully reclines for infants. I looked into bassinets, moses baskets, etc. but I think it would be easiest to just keep the big crib in our bedroom to start out with - we have the space. And in six months or so we can move it to her own room. I think the wooden rocker C.T. found at a garage sale will work just fine. My mom and I will recover it and make it cute. I know it would be nice to have a glider, but we could always get one later if needed. One of these days we should register for shower gifts. Also on the to-do list for January is find a day care and find a pediatrician. No small feat there! We are praying about all these big decisions coming up.

We're having a GIRL

We had the ultrasound this morning. We're having a baby girl! We are so excited!

Finally feeling comfortable with this growing body

For some unexplainable reason, when I reached 16 weeks on Saturday I finally felt happy with my growing belly. I had it in my head that I shouldn't be showing this much already or gaining so much weight early on. But I have to remember that everyone's body is different, and there is no real "normal".
I had a nice visit with my parents last weekend while C.T. was in Indiana for a guys weekend to watch the Iowa game. She said she gained around 30 or 35 with us girls, and then 65 with my brother. And that makes me feel a lot better, because she definitely lost that weight soon after. My mom also said I should be feeling the baby kick any day now, but that it will be more like a tiny internal flutter.

We went into a fancy baby store down on Grand ave - there's a lot of stuff you could buy for baby! Some of the things on my wish list already are a nice high chair, glass bottles, one of those wrap things, and a nice stroller. We were also able to get some ideas for the crib dad's making. I'm hoping I keep to my less is more mentality. Especially for toys and such - here's what I imagine will be in our toy box: wooden blocks, legos, cars, play kitchen, puzzles, balls, doll house, crayons. Oh, I can't wait for the coloring years!

Baby Names

I realized I haven't blogged about this yet. We definitely have a front-runner in each of the gender categories. The vetoes have been flying around like crazy though!

Top boy name: Henry Christian
Middle name is after his father. We'd likely call him Hank.
What we've considered: Luke, Cedar

Top girl name: Lucille Kathleen
Middle name is after her grandmothers (my mom's name and C.T.'s mom's middle name). We'd call her Lucy.
What we've considered: Violet, Mallory

Size of a fist!

We hit 14 weeks on Saturday. The baby is about the size of a fist and growing every day. He/she has a permanent hairline (isn't that weird?) and is now covered in lanugo - downy hair to keep the babe warm until accumulating baby fat. By the end of this week the ears will have moved to their proper position on the side of the head (not the neck) and the eyes will move to the center of the face. So strange! At this point, the baby is moving a ton - practicing the use of all its body parts.

Well for the past week or so, C.T. has been sick with a cold, poor guy. I've felt pretty good - some days are great, others just okay. I found out I have this strange business going on on my tonsils. I'm hoping it's due to the increased hormone stuff. But I'll go see the doctor just in case. This happens every exam season, the body is stressed out from all the worry and effort and its so easy to catch a cold. We are close to the end, only 2 weeks away. Then, it's back to focusing on enjoying the weather, the holidays, family, friends, etc. I'm already gearing up for this year's Turkey Trot :) (2 years ago I convinced C.T. to run a 5k with me around Colby Lake the morning of Thanksgiving. Now it's tradition!) And I've tried brainstorming about Christmas gifts. I bought halloween candy yesterday, and was immediately reprimanded for getting the "cheap" stuff, lol, I happen to like Nerds, Sweet Tarts and Bottle Caps. C.T. seemed to think that's what all the kids dread getting. I told him at least they're not Smarties. I did get some chocolate things too. I'm guessing we'll have a lot of kids in this neighborhood. And we're going to be home for the night - studying and answering the door. Penny might have to hang out in the backyard (she's getting really good at barking at the door bell - even those on TV or radio).

I talked with my manager last week - and it went fine. We didn't discuss my work options for after the birth, but I figure I'll bring that up another day.

We started following the study book to the latest sermon series at Woodland. So far it's great! I'm willing and eager to see some growth out of it.

This friday we are going out to dinner to celebrate it being 4 years since we began our relationship. There's this neat french place operating out of an old house in the Sherman Hill area with local cuisine. Should be good! It's hard to imagine that it's been only 4 years - so much has changed! I hope that we always continue to date one another and simply enjoy one another's company. Sigh, remember when grocery shopping together felt like a date?

Coming up: A week of studying, friday date night, & halloween

Is it October?

The weather has been gorgeous lately - if not a bit too hot out. I mean, it's middle of October and the temps are still in the 70s/80s. I like the cool fall weather - so hopefully full blown winter doesn't start up before we get sweatshirt and bonfire weather.

As an update, the roasted chicken was awesome. Once I got over the ick factor of prepping a fresh chicken, it was really simple and tasted so yummy. I originally planned on having leftovers, but the Carlsons were able to come over for dinner and we ate almost the entire thing! The squash was also a hit. Everyone was a little skeptical, but all said they enjoyed it. So, now that I've done it once, it'll be a snap to make that more often this fall/winter.

Last weekend we had dinner at Yanni's in Ankeny with Carlsons and Albers. Albers are excited for us, as expected :) I really like our friends. On Saturday we were all ready to lay down grass seed, but after talking to the guy at TNT he suggested we wait a few more weeks. Bummer. But we did pick up all the supplies we'll need. Sunday we had a minor crisis at our house. We could smell gas (to me it smelled like regular gasoline) out in the front yard. MidAmerican came out to check on it and found that the natural gas line was leaking! They dug up the line and found that whoever installed the pipes didn't screw a cap on correctly and it likely had been slowly leaking for 6+years. That explains why the grass in that area never grew in properly, and why the tree out front looks so sickly. When they dug up the ground the soil had a green tinge to it. Thankfully, there was no signs of natural gas up near the house, and we have CO detectors now.

Today I had my second doctor's appointment. It was short and sweet - the routine pee in a cup and check blood pressure and weight. I've only gained 2 pounds since last month (whew!) which I'm happy about. Then a quick chat with the nurse and we listened to the baby's heartbeat. Baby's clocking it at around 150 bpm. This Saturday I'll be 13 weeks, the end of the 1st trimester. I've been looking forward to this purely for the easing of nausea! An update on the baby's growth: Now 3 inches long, about the size of a peach. The intestines are moving from the umbilical cord (where they developed) into the abdomen, and vocal chords are forming.

I've been in a funk for the past few days, but I think I'm finally pulling out of it. It started by finding out my exam results. But I really have sooo much to be grateful for and to look forward to. I have a wonderful husband who is helpful and compassionate and loving. God has blessed us with this growing baby. We have a joyous dog who cannot get enough attention. Our families and friends love us a lot. So see? There's hardly a thing to be sad about!

Coming up: Same old song and dance - studying, walks, Survivor night.

A lovely weekend

I had a wonderful weekend. I took Friday off of work and drove up to MN with Penny on Thursday night. Friday we went to the dog park, went to yoga, made granola bars, went maternity clothes shopping, made an apple pie, stopped by the open house of this cute shop in Afton, and cooked roast for dinner. Grandma and Grandpa were over for dinner and to say the least they are very excited about the baby!
I like yoga - although I realize I was spoiled by a really good instructor when we were at LA fitness. The lady teaching the class that day was 4 months pregnant - see I can do most all these moves!
I was a bit hesitant to go maternity clothes shopping, but as soon as I got home this week and tried on my work pants, I'm very glad I went! I got two pairs of jeans and a pair of black work pants, and a handful of tshirts. My favorite purhase so far has been the Belly Band - its a spandex-y tube top looking thing that your use over your regular pants to hold them up when unbuttoned. I've been wearing it all week to work and it works wonders. If it peeks out under a shirt, it looks like I'm wearing a tight undershirt. Completely unnoticeable.
Funny story while we were at the garden shop in Afton - I had picked out a sprig of bittersweet, a low basket, and 3 ceramic pots that fit in the basket. As I'm standing in line with my purchases, this lady behind us comments "oh, that bittersweet is really cool looking, better than mine - are there more left?" we say we're not sure but they have them all over the store. She scurries off to look. When she gets back she notices the pots "are there any more of those pots?" why yes, over on the sale table. We get to the checkout and the cashier comments on how great a deal the basket is. Same lady, "are there any more of those baskets?"
At dinner we had squash, and it was yummy and good for you, so I'm determined to make some this week!
On Saturday we did a Trader Joe's run (the one in WDM will open in Nov) and made another apple pie for me to take back. We went to lunch at Tran (delicious!!) before I got on the road. I picked up CT from the airport and we spent the rest of the evening watching the Penn State game.

The last 3 days I've felt sicker than usual. But thankfully today my stomach seems to be cooperating better. This week we've started a new little pattern. After a quick snack, CT is off to the library to study while I take Penny for a walk and get dinner ready. Monday we had spaghetti with meat sauce, salad and bread. Tuesday we had lemon pepper tilapia with asparagus risotto and salad. Tonight I'm venturing to make a whole roasted chicken and roasted squash. I don't have a roasting pan for the chicken, so I've been reading up on what to do instead. Here's hoping the chicken turns out alright! We've invited Bryce and Rachel over for dinner and to watch Survivor. Not sure if they'll make it though - they are likely preparing for Rachel to go back to work tomorrow (oh how time flies!).

Speaking of going back to work. Now, I haven't talked to my work yet, but I'm really really hoping I can do part time. That way I'll work 5 days every 2 weeks. And if Carlson's do any sort of reduced work week - we could potentially trade off days and have the kids at home as much as possible. That would be ideal.

Coming up: Well, the roast chicken experiment, and hopefully a quick end to the week! Tomorrow night is Actuarial evening at Drake. This weekend is supposed to be beautiful weather and fingers crossed we'll get some lawn work in!

No good very bad day

Well the past few days haven't been wonderful. Here's my short list of complaints, and then I promise I'll get my positive mindset back
1) CT is out of town, I miss him.  2) Actually threw up on Sunday, out of nowhere! But as soon as it was over, I felt tremendously better, haha.  3) New job prospect fell through.  4) Today's the first day I caved and wore work pants, unbuttoned, with a rubber band holding it together, and a long shirt.

Onto the positives: I've been run/walking with Penny after work this week. We go for approx 2 miles. I want to keep this up - it makes me feel more in shape and less bulgy.  Fall TV is back! So I have a whole DVR of shows recorded. I like that I can get through a 2 hr Biggest Loser in approx 45 min.

I'm going up to MN for a visit on Friday since CT is still out of town and I could use a break and a visit. I hope to see Grandma and Grandpa and tell them the news! This little baby is a first for a lot of people! I think we're going to tell friends and others about it 2 weeks or so. Once we've successfully wrapped up the 1st Trimester.

Fun baby fact: At 11 weeks, the baby moves about 30% of the time. Lungs are practicing, fingers wiggle, other organs go through the motions. But in a few short weeks the brain says "ok, cool it. you're wearing yourself out" and movements become much less frequent, but nevertheless more coordinated and interesting.

Coming up: Survivor night with the Carlsons tonigh. Trip to MN with Penny Thursday evening. Back on Saturday to pick up CT from the airport and watch the Iowa/Penn State game.

Rain rain everywhere

Last weekend was cold and rainy. I ended up sleeping a lot. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat these days - which is good and bad. Good when C.T. is tossing & turning and bad when I'm at work trying to get things done. On Saturday we went down to the Alber's to watch the Beaverdale Fest parade. We would have stuck around and wandered around the rest of the festival but the weather was not cooperative. We did get some free candy out of the deal. Penny was good for most of the parade, but really didn't like it when the marching band and Isiserettes came by! She cowered in the Honda with CT. After that I ended up taking a nap and later that night we met up with Joe and Bryce at Buffalo Wild Wings for the Iowa game. Iowa lost. It was a total bummer. C.T. had to go for a walk after it was over (at 1:30am). He does that sometimes. I wonder if he saw any other depressed Hawkeye fans wandering the neighborhood. :)
Sunday was also a snooze day - but I did manage to get a long walk/jog with Penny in the misty rain. That and a good hot meal cooked with my best friend was a nice way to end the day.

First prenatal visit

We had my first prenatal visit this morning. First things first, pee in a cup, get weighed, and that's where the emotions came out. I have gained 6-7 pounds in the last 2 months. This sent me to tears, and of course the nurse was positive and said it's nothing to worry about and that I should just try to eat protein and carbs together at every snack. Looks like I should go to the grocery store and stock up on better food!
We tried listening for the heartbeat with the Doppler device, but once the nurse learned that my period usually lasts 30-34 days (longer than average) she figured I was earlier than I thought. The plus to this was she scheduled an ultrasound so we could get a better due date.
We started the ultrasound and then, there it was on the screen! I was expecting to see more of a blob shape but no! it looks just like a little tiny baby! We could see the little one's profile - nose and eyes and all. And the heart is beating like crazy - which you can see on the ultrasound too. We were able to hear it for a moment and it sounded like a locomotive - wub wub wub wub...
Our due date is now April 23, which will put us at 9 weeks on Saturday.
The other nice thing about the early ultrasound is we won't be surprised with twins or quints. Our little babe is happily growing. Oh I hope I continue to provide a nice home for him/her over the next few months!
What a blessing. Pure blessing. Christian and I are so lucky. Thank you, God, for this gift and for entrusting us with this.

Coming up: making a visit to see new little Ruby Jacobsen, born yesterday. Very exciting!

9 weeks

Today makes 9 weeks! The embryo is now a fetus according to the medical world. They say he or she has little arms and legs and muscles and is moving limbs like crazy, but I'm unable to feel them for another few weeks. I am doing pretty well. I had a cold/allergies or something going on earlier in the week which meant I ended up sleeping a lot! Currently, I feel tired and naseous most of the day, and recently I have what I'd describe as a dry mouth, but water doesn't sound good. Not sure what that means, and I try to drink water during the day regardless.

Ah, it feels so good to have our families in on the big news. At my parents, we gave them a card that started out: "Dear Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Kayla and Uncle John..." my mom looked at me and says "did you mean to...?" and once she saw me smiling and nodding the tears came and we all hugged! They are absolutely thrilled to be grandparents. Kayla and Steve were there and were happy for us too. We called John to give him the news, it's too bad he wasn't there too. We just couldn't find a time that all siblings were together! Now I get checked in on with how I'm feeling - which is nice because C.T. has to deal with lots of pregnancy mood swings and I'm guessing he knows I don't feel well, but not exactly how I'm feeling. With my mom she can say "oh yes I know that feeling, and here, try these things to make yourself feel better."

My mom's been reminding me to eat well too, which I've slacked on because I'm tired after work and not in the mood to cook a nice healthy dinner. Also, I'm never sure what I'd like to eat. I know I need food so I just snack on things throughout the day and try to ignore the naueous feeling. I have been meaning to go to the store for groceries, but here it is Thursday and I haven't made it there. I'm making chili for the football crowd on Saturday, so at that point I'll try to pick up some fruit & veggies. Speaking of, I'm looking forward to the chili because I'm making 2 batches: one turkey chili that's spicy and more saucy then your typical chili, and another in the crock pot in the more traditional style.

We announced the baby news to C.T.'s mom and brothers over dinner on Labor day. His mom got a bit teary and the brothers reactions were: "sweet. here we go" :) They are excited for us and to be uncles.

Next Tuesday is our first prenatal visit with the OB doctor. I'm really looking forward to meeting the staff and having an outlet for questions. And of course, to make sure everything is progressing nicely.

I've been really in the mood to go apple picking. I don't think it's as big of a thing down here. But I love it. The weather is cool now and I could go for some Honeycrisp!

One thing I was thinking about: I thought our heart and other things like breathing were controlled subconsiously by our brains. How does it work, then, that the baby's heart develops first and is beating before the brain is formed?
Coming up: Iowa v Iowa State game hosted at our house with 2 kinds of chili and maybe some ginger cookies? First prenatal visit next Tuesday.

I spoke too soon...

Just as I was happy to report no terrible pregnancy symptoms, I get hit with this weird slightly nauseous feeling all day long. Nothing bad enough to send me to the toilet, but it's getting annoying! So that's a bummer. Tomorrow makes 8 weeks. That's almost 2 months! I am really looking forward to hearing his or her heartbeat. I go in for my first prenatal visit in two more weeks. C.T. will come with me so he can hear it too and ask all his questions - which I'll be glad about because he's wonderfully protective, but I think he worries.

I was also miserable with allergies. I've heard that about 1/3 of pregnant women experience less allergy symptoms. Guess I'm in the majority. They were getting pretty bad, so with an okay from the doctor I'm now on Claritin and feeling soo much better.

We're planning on telling our families this weekend. We'll wait to tell friends for another couple weeks until we hear the heartbeat and know that everything is okay. I've been trying to think of cute, creative ways to tell the parents though. I found a onesie that says "I <3 Grandpa" which I think is adorable and I'm keeping it regardless. Then we have another onesie that's pink and says "I love my Grandma and Grandpa". We could either wrap those up and give them as gifts, or write them a card that says "Dear Grandma and Grandpa (or Aunt Kayla), I can't wait to meet you in April! Love, Baby Hammond". Or we could get them a picture frame that says Grandma on it.

Which this got me thinking about what the baby will call his/her grandparents. I think my mom would like Nana, which I love. I don't know how my dad feels about Papa, but that would be cute. I'm guessing C.T.'s mom will like good old fashioned Grandma. This baby will be the first grandchild on both sides - he/she'll be so loved! And probably spoiled! :)

Coming up: A lot! Labor day weekend - supposed to have beautiful 70's weather - in Minnesota, maybe at the cabin. We'll going to spill the beans to the whole family! The Hawkeye's first game is Saturday morning. Monday is CT's fantasy draft and we'll share the news with his mom and brothers. Lot's to look forward to!

Week 7

The baby is growing to the size of a blueberry, with the little jaw and cheekbones taking shape.

I've been pretty lucky symptom-wise. I haven't had any morning sickness (knock on wood!). I am tired and my mood changes quickly, and I can still smell everything. But nothing terribly uncomfortable. The book says most women see symptoms around week 6. For awhile I was eating whatever sounded good, just in case something would trigger the sickness. But, so far so good, so I'm going to start eating better. I even packed salad with grilled chicken and vegetables for lunch today.

Last night we made chicken alfredo (not from the jar) and it was delicious! I like cooking with my husband. I am so very lucky to have someone like him to share life with.

A few friends of ours are trying to plan a vacation in January. Ordinarily we might go, but at this rate there's too much I wouldn't be able to do: hang out on the beach (I shouldn't overheat), go swimming (me, 26 weeks and in a swimming suit? no sir), all inclusive (no alcohol for me), 7 days (I hope to save my PTO). So, bummer, but I think we're a no go.

I'm already looking forward to setting up the nursery and finding diapers on sale. :) I'm trying to wait at least until we find out the sex of the baby - that will help with the colors, haha.

Coming up: A free weekend!

It's Official

I went to the doctor yesterday, and it's official - we're pregnant!
I can't believe this is really happening. We weren't trying, but we weren't not trying either. So in a few short months we'll have a little one joining our family. I can't wait to see what he or she looks like!

We're going to wait to tell family for a few weeks, just to let it all sink in. I'm thinking Labor day weekend will be a good time to make the announcement.

We picked up a copy of What to Expect When You're Expecting. I'm at 6 weeks, so the baby is the size of an orange seed with a heart beat and everything. Wow. A heart beat!

So far I've been lucky and only have a few symptoms - namely a highly acute sense of smell!
If I keep up with this blog, it can be a place to share and keep track of our family memories.

Coming up: My parents and John are coming down for a visit - Dad and John will be traveling on down to Texas and Mom will be here to shop & hang out. John's turning 21 (holy cow!) in a week.
